2019 Score International Baja 1000

Nov 23rd, 2019 - Saturday morning, Shannon Campbell & Bryan Kirby took off the start line to complete the first 255 miles of the 2019 Score International Baja 1000. About 5 miles off of the start they had to change a tire and then quickly pitted to strap on a new one to the back of the car. They were down for about 10 minutes due to the jack not working correctly but eventually figured it out. As they worked their way down to San Quintin and up to BFG Pit 2 in the dark, they realized Mexico was showing them that it was not going to be a dry and fast paced race but a rather muddy and laboring one. The car was kicking belts left and right after hitting a large mud hole so Kirby hopped out to put them back on while Shannon "Instagrammed" in the driver seat lol. The starter was now giving them issues and had to be hit with a rock every now and then to restart, until they could throw on the spare. Half way through the 255 miles now, the pinion was leaking and the lights were covered in mud. As soon as they got to RM255 for a driver change the crew quickly added fuel to the car, swapped the bad starter out for a new one, wiped the headlights clean, added gear oil to the rear diff and sent Wayland and Ryan Miller on their way. These two should be rewarded with the patience award... after being in the car for 10+ hours they had changed 5 belts, back tracked by foot on course to find the belts that flew off to make sure they had enough for when Bailey and Bryan got in, changed out tensioners 3 times as well as 2 pulleys, smashed a break line after a caliper went bad and froze there butts off. We know the main goal for this years Baja 1000 was to make sure the car made it to Bailey and Bryan as for the last two years it has not. The four of them did just that and around 4:50 AM Wayland and Ryan pulled up to RM580 and handed the car off to Bailey and Bryan. The crew quickly added a new Powertank to the car, threw on a new spare tire, filled the fuel tank, added more gear oil due to the pinion leaking still and assembled Bailey's pedal extensions and floorboard. 60 miles in, Bryan and Bailey threw a belt. These two were down for almost an hour after switching out tensioners and pulleys just to try and keep the belt on. Due to the bolts being taken in and out of the tensioner connected to the water pump so many times over the last 20 hours they were beginning to strip out the threads of the water pump. With no spare bolts or nuts on board of the car Bryan had to work out the aluminum threads now stuck in the threads of the bolt itself with wire strippers. Thank god that worked and there were still enough threads inside to hold that tensioner on for the rest of the race. As the two gathered them selfs back up and worked their way toward RM730 where they would stop for their last stab of fuel for the finish line, they lost the belt 3 more times along with brakes. They re-filled the reservoirs with brake fluid at the last pit and added a manual tensioner to see if this would help the belt situation. Through all the work each driver and co-driver has put in, they definitely deserved crossing the finish line 25 hours later and we couldn't be more proud. Shannon and Kirby successfully brought the car to Wayland and Ryan, those two brought it to Bailey and Bryan and they brought it to the finish line.
